1. Our organization – The International Dairy Federation

The International Dairy Federation represents the global dairy sector and ensures the best scientific expertise is used to support high quality milk and nutritious, safe and sustainable dairy products. IDF’s mission is to help nourish the world with safe and sustainable dairy. The organisation is a leading source of scientific and technical expertise for all stakeholders. It also works closely with NGOs and IGOs around the world and engages stakeholders in productive activities and research projects to further current knowledge and science on a wide range of issues. Today, dairy is one of the most vibrant and strategic sectors, with a major impact on national economies, public health and the environment. Through its working bodies, events and work programme, IDF provides a common platform, systems and processes for the global dairy sector to come together to reach consensus. 2. Role Summary

The role of the Communications Officer is to assist in shaping internal and external communication, sharing the technical and scientific work of the federation to its global membership as well as developing compelling content across variable platforms to increase awareness of the sector and engage our audience, by performing tasks such as planning, producing, designing, publishing and updating content for the IDF websites, intranet, social media channels (X -former Twitter-, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads and potentially others),  writing  and editing content for communication material, such as brochures, leaflets, banners, monitoring and reporting back campaigns, production and development of digital and printed publications. The Communications Officer also follows up the communications and publications planner.

The selected person will also be required to live tweet, report in real time and do live streaming on different platforms. Videomaking and video-editing will also be an important part of the role. The person will report to the Communications Manager.

3. The Communications Officer will:

  • Generate content and communication materials such as brochures, leaflets, one-pagers, etc.
  • Be responsible for writing, editing, proofreading designing and putting in layout IDF publications.
  • Assist in curating the visual image of IDF brand.
  • Update websites, IDF Cloud and social media content.
  • Creating engaging written, visual and multimedia content for our website, blog, social media channels, email newsletters and other platforms.
  • Support new developments.
  • Monitoring and analysing the performance of content using analytics tools and making recommendations for improvement. Optimizing content for search engines to improve visibility and reach.
  • Assist in the organization of Webinars and other IDF events.

 

4. Desired profile:

  • 2 – 5 years of professional marketing or communications experience. Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism or other related field.
  • Full command of English speaking and writing skills (native English speaker preferred) with a keen eye for detail; other languages spoken in any of our 40 membership countries, a plus.
  • Proficiency in creating various types of content, including internal articles, blog posts, social media posts, videos and infographics.
  • Knowledge of publishing principles and basics of publication design, layout and editing.
  • Knowledge of production methodology for publishing products in hardcopy or electronic formats (Creative Adobe).
  • Experience in web editing and knowledge of Content Management Systems (Canva, InDesign), knowledge of different social media channels and managing programmes (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Threads, Sprout Social), community management and online analysis tools.
  • Experience with videomaking and editing is a plus.
  • A strong team player, empathic, with good interpersonal skills, including a dynamic and flexible attitude, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to multitask and to work with tight and simultaneous deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changes and new challenges.

 

Position is based at the IDF Head Office in Brussels. Salary and benefits are market comparable.

The position offers an excellent experience to those with an interest in international standard setting and the linking of policy and technical work. We offer an interesting, dynamic and international work environment and insight into the functioning of an international federation. The successful candidate will work within our Science and Standards Programme department. 

The placement will be in our office in Brussels, within a cross-functional and international team and provides a unique opportunity to engage with a dynamic sector.

 

  1. Position Purpose and responsibilities

     

    a) Main purpose

The Science officer shall be responsible for assisting the Science & Standard Programme managers (PM) in the developing, implementing, monitoring, following-up and reporting on the IDF Programme of Work.

          b) Principal responsibilities

The Science officer shall be responsible for the following duties:

  • Support coordinating IDF Standing Committees, prepare agenda’s and supporting documents,
  • Support and steer selected projects and events,
  • Coordinate and develop position papers, reports, and other publications,
  • Monitor activities from relevant international organizations to identify adequate action within IDF in consultation with the relevant Programme manager,
  • Coordinate the IDF technical webinar series,
  • Communicate developments on an on-going basis to other IDF staff colleagues, IDF experts and IDF members

  1. Knowledge and experience

The Science officer shall have the following education and skills:

  • 1-3 years of professional experience in the food or agriculture sector, (preferably in the dairy sector)
  • Master’s degree (ideally in food processing & technology, microbiology or food law),
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English (other languages are a further asset),
  • Able to work on own initiative and take responsibility,
  • Good organisational and analytical skills, ability to prioritise, respect tight deadlines and work well under pressure,
  • Flexible and dynamic team player.
  • Experience in preparing a peer reviewed article in scientific journals would be an asset.

  1. Accountability

The Science officer shall report to the Scientific and Standards Programme manager.

  1. Duration

This is a permanent position (Belgian CDI 38 hours a week-). Starting date: May 2024.

The position is based at the IDF Head Office in Brussels.
