Opening Ceremony of the World Dairy Industry Conference 2026, Hohhot, China

It was a pleasure for the International Dairy Federation (IDF) to participate in recent dairy sector events in Hohhot, China, bringing together policymakers, industry leaders, researchers, and international organizations to discuss the future of dairy.

As the global dairy sector faces shared challenges such as climate change, resource constraints, supply chain volatility, and evolving consumer expectations, international dialogue and cooperation are more important than ever. These priorities were reflected in the conference theme, Technology-driven, Win-win Collaboration: For a Sustainable Global Dairy Ecosystem.

Throughout the week, discussions explored how innovation, research, digital transformation, and cross-sector partnerships can strengthen the sector’s resilience, support sustainable growth, and help address complex global challenges.

During her visit, IDF Director General Laurence Rycken met with representatives from the Chinese dairy community, international partners, and industry stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of science-based decision-making and collaboration in advancing sustainable dairy systems.

The programme also provided valuable insights into emerging developments across dairy science, technology, and sustainability initiatives. A consistent message emerged from the discussions: meaningful progress depends on combining scientific expertise with international cooperation and practical innovation.

IDF appreciates the active engagement of its Chinese National Committee, its Secretary Prof. Ling Guo, Dr Yun Zhanyou, IDF Board Member, Mr Thanawat Tiensin, Assistant Director-General and Director of the Animal Production and Health Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and all those who contributed to the conversations throughout the visit.

As a global platform for science-based dairy expertise, FIL-IDF remains committed to connecting stakeholders, sharing knowledge, and advancing solutions that support a sustainable and resilient future for dairy worldwide.
