The Director General of the International Dairy Federation, Ms. Laurence Rycken, was honoured to speak at the 2026 Dairy Science, Technology & Nutrition Health Innovation Conference in Dengkou, Inner Mongolia, under the inspiring theme “Sharing Global Innovation, Advancing Industrial Upgrading.”
One of the most powerful takeaways was the Ulan Buh Desert ecological governance model. It demonstrates how arid land can be transformed into arable, productive agricultural space, with the dairy cow at the centre of that transformation. The ecosystem services provided by animals, nutrient cycling, soil regeneration, and organic matter replenishment, turn barren sand into thriving pasture. It is an encouraging model for other regions facing desertification challenges worldwide.
